"Agriculture is a human adventure" ...this site is an account of Neil McGowan's Nuffield adventure..
Where I'm coming from:
Incheoch is an upland farm in Perthshire, home to Neil and Debbie and their kids Tally (10) and Angus (9), 1100 ewes, 250 beef breeding cows, a couple of ponies, some mad hens, an abundance of wildlife, more of the McGowan family, their friends and helpers. Our mission is to 'Produce Functional, Efficient and Robust Breeding Stock' for ourselves and other stockmen. We hold the Working Genes ram sale on the farm every year in September, sell bulls from the paddock at home and at the Stirling Bull Sales and breeding females are marketed too.
We believe that livestock farming is a lifestyle choice, and we want to help make it a good choice. By getting the genetics right we can help beef and sheep producers be profitable, welfare friendly, environmentally responsible and have more FUN.
Neil's Nuffield:
'Managing Large Scale Seed-stock Breeding Programs - Beef and Sheep' is the official title - but it is evolving into 'Innovation in the stud sector' - with emphasis on creating large populations through breeder co-operation, selection for feed efficiency in beef cattle, and parasite and disease resistance selection in sheep.' I plan to visit Canada and the USA in July 2015 and New Zealand and Australia in December 2015.
My Assumptions:
I want to pack my travel bag with an open mind, but in order to focus my study, I am going with some basic assumptions (please follow the link).
